Update – September 7, 2022

Starting Friday, September 9, we will not be requiring proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test upon entry. Masks will still be highly encouraged and appreciated.

Update – May 23
As of May 27, 2022, we will accept proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test (within last 48 hours). Masks are highly encouraged and appreciated.
Update – March 3
Starting Friday, March 4, we are increasing the capacity of our theaters to 100%. Masks and proof of vaccination still required.
Update – February 9
Starting Friday, February 11, we are increasing the capacity of our theaters to 75%.

Please be advised that while The Roxie is keeping capacity at 50%, some outside programs and theater rentals may have 100% capacity at their events. Updates – August 12

New Vaccine Requirement!

As per San Francisco’s Safer Return Together Order, starting this Friday, August 20, all patrons age 12 and older will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and photo ID when arriving at the theater. Proof of vaccination that will be accepted:

– A vaccination card, showing fully vaccinated status
– A photo of your vaccination card, showing fully vaccinated status
-A digital vaccine record, which you can easily access here if you got your vaccine in CA:

And you will also need:
– A government-issued photo ID that matches the name on your vaccine.

We are continuing to operate at a 50% capacity limit in both the Big and Little Roxie. We will be reopening our concessions stands on Friday, August 13th, and if you purchase food or drink we kindly ask that you keep your masks on when not in your assigned seat and not eating and drinking. Masks will still be required for all patrons and staff. Thanks for doing your part!

Update- July 28

The Roxie is updating our COVID-19 policy as per CDC guidelines and recent trends. We will continue to enforce the wearing of masks for all customers, employees, vendors, and volunteers, regardless of vaccination status. Out of an abundance of caution, theater capacity will be reduced to 50%, and concession sales will temporarily be suspended.  No outside food will be allowed. We urge anyone experiencing symptoms associated with Covid-19 to please stay home.

The safety & comfort of our patrons and staff is The Roxie’s highest priority.  We thank you for your patience as we navigate the present state of public health. And thanks for supporting The Roxie!

Update –  June 15
Today, San Francisco joins in California’s decision to lift most of its COVID-19 restrictions. While we know that most our patrons may be protected from COVID-19, the comfort and well-being of our guests, filmmakers, and staff remains a priority at The Roxie. For the time being, we are keeping our capacity at up to 75% at each screening and requiring masks.

The Roxie is reopening for public screenings in compliance with guidelines provided by the CDC, the State of California, and the City of San Francisco. We have also adopted CinemaSafe, the uniform health and safety protocols issued by the National Association of Theatre Owners. Below is how we are taking the responsibility of keeping you and our team members safe. We’re extremely excited to welcome you back!

  • Masks will be required for entry and at all times while in the building. Once seated in the auditorium, masks may only be removed while eating or drinking. These precautions apply to all patrons and staff — including those who have received vaccinations. Staff who are handling food/drinks will wear gloves as well.
  • Limited showtimes and reduced capacity. Although we’d be allowed to reopen at 50% capacity, we have limited our capacity to 25% for the time being. We will increase capacity to 75% starting July 16.
  • Socially distanced seating. We are now offering reserved seating to ensure appropriate social distance in the auditorium. Our staff will assist with seating prior to the start of each movie.
  • Patrons are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets online in advance. Availability permitting, we will sell tickets at our box office.
  • Hand sanitizers will be available throughout the theater.
  • Touchless soap dispenser and faucet available in our newly renovated and ADA accessible bathroom.
  • For safety’s sake, we ask patrons not to linger in the lobby before or after screenings. Arrive on time for your screening — we’ll cut off seating for a film 10 minutes after its start time. Given our commitment to limited capacities and appropriate distancing, we cannot offer alternate seating arrangements.
  • All concession items must be consumed only when you’re in your seat.
  • Before coming to work, staff will self-monitor for fever or other symptoms of COVID-19. They will not come to work if experiencing any symptoms, or if they have been in contact with someone with COVID-19.
  • We’ve invested in new equipment for thorough sanitation and installed an HVAC system to increase air ventilation, filtration and purifying, Reme Halo UV lights system and Accuclean air cleaner.
  • Roxie staff members will be sanitizing high-contact surfaces frequently. This includes all door handles, countertops, bathroom stalls, faucets, etc. Seating will also be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between each screening. The lobby, box office and restrooms will be cleaned after each screening has started — and concessions will be cleaned at frequent and regular intervals.
