UNNAMED FOOTAGE FESTIVAL PRESENTS: MANIAC
February 28 only
The Unnamed Footage Festival presents: Maniac (2012), a technical feat with a stunning score that will haunt you in your dreams!
Frank Zito (Elijah Wood), a dangerous and troubled young mannequin restorer joins a dating site in hopes of finding companionship, but finds it only fuels his compulsion to stalk and murder the women he meets. When he encounters Anna, a photographer whose art focuses on humanizing mannequins, he finally feels a connection and will do whatever it takes to get close to her. Bill Lustig’s original MANIAC (1980) was set in a gritty New York, but french director Franck Khalfoun moves his loving remake to a glossy, LED lit Hollywood Boulevard, embedding the camera in the serial killer’s head. Fixed in Frank Zito’s first person POV, his experiences, trauma, and horrible acts become inescapable to the viewer.
This unsung horror masterpiece of the 2000’s is presented at the Roxie Theatre as part of the Unnamed Footage Festival. The Unnamed Footage Festival is a 4-day Bay Area event dedicated to showcasing rare and underground films in the niche genre of First Person Cinema, including found footage horror, first person POV film, and faux-documentary.
