UNEARTHED: SHORTS BY EMERGING BAY AREA ARTISTS
November 08 only
Please join us for an evening of short works by Bay Area emerging artists, and get a chance to meet some of the artists in person!
This screening is the first in a series of events that will culminate in 3 nights of video installation and performance art at Counterpulse, Jan 31st through February 2nd. Rather than being organized around an aesthetic or conceptual theme this project is about connecting the immense talent, spirit, and vision that has been nurtured by the Bay Area’s inclusive, radical, and brilliant DIY culture with the resources needed to spread that culture and sustain the artists.
No themes or ideas were prompted, only the encouragement to work together to produce collaborative performances and video. We asked people to consider the process as important as the product, and to center the Black, POC, queer and femme artists. The themes that have come out of this process are ancestry and diaspora, trauma and healing, vulnerability and sexuality, and questions about our past and future. We are exploring the archaeology of the earth and human history, as well as the mind, body and spirit.
Featuring works by Chi Chi Castillo and Semaj Peltier/ Mao Sakurada/Jesse Austin and Drought Spa/Slevi Peligras/Karl Gomez/Catalina Xavlena.
