Surrealism in Animation (16mm)

SHOWTIMES / BUY TICKETS
First show: August 25

The influence of surrealism extended far beyond its initial origins of Bunuel and Dali- even our cartoon pals took on a few unusual and not altogether real escapades. A crazed collection of surreal animation from 1908 thru the ‘50s and beyond- all projected from 16mm film.

Titles include FANTASMAGORIE (1908), KOKO THE KOP (1927),  SWING YOU SINNERS (1930), IT’S A BIRD (1931), THE HORSE ON THE MERRY-GO-ROUND (1938), KING-SIZE CANARY (1947), THE TELL-TALE HEART (1952) and more!

SPECIAL ADDED ATTRACTION: The world’s oldest surrealistic animated film- projected in its original fragile state (and it’s probably a title you’ve never heard of before!)

The Roxie has the best ‘toons in town!”

Run time: 100 minutes.

NOTE FILMS START RIGHT AT THE LISTED SHOWTIME.

We are accepting proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test (within the last 48 hours). Masks are highly encouraged and appreciated.
