STARMAN – FREDDIE BURRETTI: THE MAN WHO SEWED THE WORLD
June 17 only
An Ultra-rare Benefit Screening of this David Bowie Authorized Documentary.
Co-Sponsored by Ceiba SF!
This documentary tells the fascinating story of Freddie Burretti, David Bowie’s very close friend and key early 70’s Ziggy Stardust costume collaborator and stylist. By creating a sensational and inspiring on-stage and off-stage wardrobe that has never been equaled, Freddie Burretti helped David Bowie make a huge statement of future intent. No one had ever seen anything or anyone like David Bowie circa 1972/3. Together they challenged British culture, fashion and a skeptical rock music industry and won. Perhaps more importantly, their shared resilience not to bow down to a 1970’s homophobic society provided a pathway for gay rights to be established as we know them today.
Written and directed by Lee Scriven. UK 2018. DCP. 80 mins.
“It’s a beautiful true story about two beautiful people, and it’s a story that needs to be told. I’m pleased to say Mr Bowie agreed with my sentiments and before his sad and untimely passing, personally helped me with this project.” – Director Lee Scriven.
