SF DocFest: SPIDER MITES OF JESUS: THE DIRTWOMAN DOCUMENTARY

Every city has its own local legend, and Donnie “Dirtwoman” Corker was Richmond, Virginia’s. Having suffered from “Spider Mites of Jesus” (spinal meningitis) as a child, Donnie struggled with learning disabilities which left him illiterate. With limited career options and a larger-than-life personality, Donnie made his way as a drag prostitute, borderline-offensive performer, and local celebrity. With his John Waters-esque ability to both shock and delight, Donnie inherited the moniker Dirtwoman, the self-proclaimed Queen of Richmond. Whether performing on stage, appearing in a GWAR video, or caught candidly on the street, what Dirtwoman offers up is anyone’s guess, but you can bet it’s nothing shy of outrageous.

Directed by Jerry Williams. USA. 93 mins. 2019.
