On the Edge Cinema: BOUND
October 05 only
‘It’s not where you’ve been… it’s where you’re Bound’
Corky (Gina Gershon), a butch ex con recently released from prison relocates to a shady apartment complex where she’s pursued by Violet (Jennifer Tilly), the femme fatale next door. A steamy affair evolves between the two despite Violet’s possessive mafioso husband Caesar (Joe Pantoliano), and his recent displays of bloody violence in their apartment. When Caesar comes home with 2 million dollars of mob money, Corky and Violet take a leap of faith with each other and steal the money to start anew, but their plan doesn’t go as expected in this dripping wet neo noir.
On the Edge Cinema is pleased to present BOUND in a queer context that is reframed by the director’s gender identities. At the time, the Wachowski siblings were male presenting and praised for their depiction of lesbian relationships and sex (though we also have Susie Bright, the San Francisco sex consultant, to thank), but the film’s queer gaze is more apparent than ever post-(public)-transition of the Wachowski sisters.
On the Edge Cinema is a film series dedicated to showcasing diverse and inclusive creators and content that includes (but is not limited to) women, trans, non binary, and POC folks. Hosted by Dominique Oneil.
