Moms at the Roxie: A Benefit Screening of Blindspotting
February 23 only
AT RUSH! (a rush line will be available for unclaimed seats, on a first-come-first-serve basis)
Presented by Rafael Casal and the Roxie
Following the screening Casal will be joined by ACCE representative and veteran activist Carroll Fife, along with co-star Daveed Diggs to discuss the ever-changing dynamics and ever-growing cost to live in the Bay Area neighborhoods we all call home.
All proceeds from the event will benefit ALLIANCE OF CALIFORNIANS FOR COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT (ACCE), the advocacy group that has provided crucial support to Moms4Housing, helped secure funds for the Oakland Land Trust to purchase the home they occupied as well as a myriad of other campaigns to further low income resident rights across California.
La Oaxaqueña food truck will be out front starting at 12:00pm and will be donating a portion of all sales.
This event was Inspired by Moms4Housing but also by one mom in particular. As Casal puts it –
“My mom has been out protesting at the Moms4Housing movement and spreading the word. She also loves movies, and turned 70 earlier this month. So for her birthday, we are partnering with SF’s famous ROXIE THEATER to present my movie BLINDSPOTTING to benefit other Bay Area Mom’s fighting for affordable housing. I hope we can further the conversation, draw some attention and support to sustainable solutions and just have a fun day at the movies!”
Blindspotting synopsis: “Collin must make it through his final three days of probation for a chance at a new beginning in his Oakland, Calif., neighborhood. His bond with his volatile best friend soon gets tested when Collin sees a police officer shoot a suspect in the back during a chase through the streets. Things quickly come to a head when the buddies attend a party at the upscale home of a young and wealthy tech entrepreneur.”
