Miloš Forman’s LOVES OF A BLONDE (Lásky jedné plavovlásky) 35mm
April 28 only
R.I.P. Miloš Forman. In his honor, we offer his 1965 Oscar-nominated Czech New Wave classic in 35mm.
A factory manager in rural Czechoslovakia bargains with the army to send men to the area, to boost the morale of his young female workers, deprived of male company since the local boys have been conscripted. The army sends reservists, mostly married middle-aged men – and the local beauty Andula, spurns those bold enough to try to win her, for the jazz pianist, newly come from Prague to perform. He seduces her. She spends the night with him, causing a lecture on a young woman’s honor at her hostel. So she throws over her other suitors and makes her way to Prague to find her young man. A tender and humorous look at Andula’s journey, from the first pangs of romance to its inevitable disappointments, LOVES OF A BLONDE immediately became a classic of the Czech New Wave and earned Milos Forman, director of ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST, HAIR, RAGTIME, AMADEUS, THE PEOPLE VS. LARRY FLYNT & MAN ON THE MOON, the first of four of his Academy Award nominations (including 2 wins!).
Written & directed by Miloš Forman. B&W. 35mm.. 1965. 88 mins.
