Anna Biller’s films, including THE LOVE WITCH, are sly, sexy, colorful and unspeakably entertaining – but, believe it or not, they’re so much more. Paying tribute to the era when the sexual revolution was captured in beautiful, Technicolor tones – while also commenting on love and relationships in our modern world – Biller is able to single-handedly create ’60s-inflected feminist fantasy in the modern day. Whether it’s the lensing, the impeccable costuming, the splashes of color, the rhythm of speech, or the remarkable set design, THE LOVE WITCH is like visiting a lost world of film, and perhaps one of the last feature films to be made with the techniques of the Technicolor era.

lwitch4In THE LOVE WITCH, Elaine, a beautiful young witch, is determined to find a man to love her. In her gothic Victorian apartment she makes spells and potions, and then picks up men and seduces them. However her spells work too well, and she ends up with a string of hapless victims. When she finally meets the man of her dreams, her desperation to be loved drives her to the brink of insanity and murder. THE LOVE WITCH explores female fantasy and the repercussions of pathological narcissism.

lwitch6We strongly recommend seeing THE LOVE WITCH the way it was meant to be seen, in our classic theater in 35mm.
