They-Live

7:00p THEY LiVE (1988)
w/ Roddy Piper, Keith David, Meg Foster & Raymond St. Jacques

Come celebrate the 28th Anniversary of easily one of the most subversive Sci-Fi/B-movies ever made. Pro-wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper (R.I.P.) does his best Kurt Russell impersonation in this remake of John Ford’s THE GRAPES OF WRATH while teaming up with Keith David (THE THiNG) as they do their best to fight against lying, corporate, brain-washing aliens who look and act exactly like the rest of our society. With the infamous “alley brawl” being worth the admission alone, its time to put your own glasses on when viewing this film. Each experience reveals another prophetic element that Carpenter was exposing about our society. Even Slavonian philosopher Slavoj Žižek has stated that THEY LiVE has the power to change the way you watch films and even interact in your own reality. Beautiful Widescreen 35mm Print courtesy of Universal. RATED R: for violence including a brutal fight, language, and brief sexuality/nudity. 93min.

9:00p DARK STAR (1974)
Co-Scipt & Directed by John Carpenter
w/ Dan O’Bannon (Co-Script, Editor & Star: Sgt. Pinback)

Celebrate the 42nd Anniversry of this unique and unstoppably funny parody on Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 (1968). Try and not die laughing as we follow a team of spaced-out American astronauts who have orders to search the universe and destroy all “unstable” planets they come across. Along the way these wacky pioneers (led by the actual genius Dan O’Bannon) as they talk to themselves, argue with computerized bombs, ask the ‘big’ questions in life and fight aliens that look exactly like a beach ball! John Carpenter’s low-budget UCLA student debut combines pertinent politics, hi-larious hi-jinx & super spiffy special effects culminating in what was known as the greatest student feature film of the 1970s. Extremely RARE 35mm print! NOTE: Due to the short length (82min) there will be a trailer reel of choice John Carpenter trailers preceding the film.
