LIGHT OF DAY (35mm)
April 23 only
Join us Monday, April 23rd to experience the pure joy of Joan Jett & Michael J. Fox in all their ’80s glory on 35mm!
During the 2018 San Francisco International Film Festival, Bay Area audiences will be treated to the new documentary BAD REPUTATION, which details the prolific life and career of rocker Joan Jett. In a fun bout of counter-programming, the Roxie is partnering with the SFFILM Programming team to ALSO bring Bay Area audiences Joan Jett’s FIRST big screen appearance on 35mm! With music performed by Jett and Fox, a perfect family drama written and directed by Paul Schrader (American Gigolo), AND a score composed by Thomas Newman, you can’t make an ’80s flick any better than this!!
Fox and Jett play a brother and sister who are lead performers in a rock band, The Barbusters, in Cleveland, Ohio. The sister, Patti Rasnick, is an unmarried mother and has a troubled relationship with her own mother, who is deeply religious. Estranged from her parents and struggling to make ends meet, Patti decides to dive headlong into a carefree rock music lifestyle. The brother, Joe Rasnick, pulls away from rock music to provide some stability for his young nephew. It takes a family crisis to bring Patti back home and force her to face the past with her mother.
FUN FACT: SFFILM Director of Programming, Rachel Rosen, worked publicity on this little gem of a movie when it was originally released!
Directed by Paul Shrader. ;1987. USA. 147 minutes.
