IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES
September 28 only
BANNED MOVIE WEEK!!!!!
Probably the most famous erotic film ever made, Nagisa Oshima’s masterpiece was banned in the US after screening at the New York Film Festival. With only a censored version allowed in its own country, In the Realm of the Senses, remains one of the most controversial films of all time. A graphic portrayal of insatiable sexual desire set in 1936, the film is based on a true incident. The story of Sada Abe, a woman whose affair with her master led to a sexual obsession which came to a violent end. Oshima’s film depicts a man and a woman (Tatsuya Fuji and Eiko Matsuda) consumed by a transcendent, destructive love while living in an era of ever escalating imperialism and governmental control. Less a work of pornography than of politics, In the Realm of the Senses is a brave, taboo-breaking milestone. WARNING: THIS FILM IS SEXUALLY EXPLICIT
