“One of Lucio Fulci’s best in terms of quality, stunning to look at between the sets, shots, split-screens, fantastic Riz Ortolani soundtrack, a great story and a few brief glimpses of his morbid obsession with the grotesque.” — Hollie Horror, Letterboxd
George (Jean Sorel of LIZARD IN A WOMAN’S SKIN, BELLE DE JOUR) needs cash to expand his San Francisco clinic, and is having an affair with glamorous fashion photog Jane. When George’s wife dies by asthma, leaving him an insurance payout, his “problems” are solved — until an anonymous phone call sends him to a strip club where he’s astonished to discover that its dangerously desirable featured performer looks exactly like his dead wife. As he unravels this mystery, George learns that the police are now investigating his wife’s death, with him under suspicion.
Dir. Lucio Fulci. Italy, 1969. 108 min, Digital. Restoration courtesy of First Line Films and the American Genre Film Archive.
