DOC FEST: How Sweet the Sound: The Blind Boys of Alabama

How Sweet the SoundAs children at a segregated state-run vocational school for the blind where conditions were harsh, the boys used to sneak off campus to perform. Faced with the bleak career choice of making brooms for a living, the blind youngsters quit school and hit the road. Riding the ups and downs of Gospel’s popularity, through segregation and declining fortunes with Rock n Roll’s arrival, and later their resurgence, the Grammy award winning Blind Boys of Alabama continue to tour well into their 80s and tell their story in their own words. -CM
