DAVID LYNCH’S DUNE
First show: May 22
In the year 10191, a spice called melange is the most valuable substance known in the universe, and its only source is the desert planet Arrakis. A royal decree awards Arrakis to Duke Leto Atreides and ousts his bitter enemies, the Harkonnens. However, when the Harkonnens violently seize back their fiefdom, it is up to Paul (Kyle MacLachlan), Leto’s son, to lead the Fremen, the natives of Arrakis, in a battle for control of the planet and its spice. Based on Frank Herbert’s epic novel.
David Lynch’s 1984 sci-fi epic Dune, a truncated adaptation of the 1965 cult favorite Frank Hubert novel of the same name, transports you to an impressively lavish and bizarre desert-scape beloved by cinephiles and Dune devotees alike. An insane and untouchable masterpiece, this 1984 adaptation is a work of intensely experimental Lynchian flair and 80s high camp backed by a stellar soundtrack featuring Toto and Brian Eno.
Directed by David Lynch. 1984. 136 min. United States. DCP.
