I Wake Up Dreaming and The Alliance Française present:
“We’ll Always Have Paris”
CASABLANCA & BOB THE GAMBLER! Holiday Double-Feature
Fri & Sat, Dec 25 & 26

I Wake Up Dreaming and The Alliance Française are pleased to announce a special Holiday 2015 Double Feature – a once-in-a-lifetime pairing of two cinema classics, one an American film from the 1940s with a vital strain of alliance to the French, the other a 1950s French film with an indelible imprint of classic American noir underpinnings. In short, another sublime cinematic experience at the Roxie Theater.

CASABLANCA hardly needs an introduction; it has remained for decades an indisputably popular film classic. Cynically tough and romantically tender, this wartime tale of passion and valor provides audiences with a lusty dose of patriotic verve. Its portrayal of French patriots and emigres stranded in Casablanca will no doubt resonate deeply with people who are keenly sensitive to the state of the world today. The film’s famous tagline, “We’ll always have Paris” sadly, now has a much deeper meaning than ever before. Directed by Michael Curtiz. Starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, Claude Rains, Peter Lorre. In black & white. 102 mins. 35mm Print!
Friday, December 25 at 7:00 Only. Saturday December 26 at 3:00 & 7:00

BobTheGamblerBOB THE GAMBLER (1956)

BOB THE GAMBLER (BOB LE FLAMBEUR) for many, has come to represent the birth of the Nouvelle Vague. Borrowing boldly from the American gangster films of the 1940s and early 50s, it stands as among the most influential films of the French New Wave. Set against the mysteriously nocturnal streets of Paris and Deauville, BOB THE GAMBLER is a luxuriously beautiful film that mixes hardboiled film noir cynicism with poetic romanticism so that it never loses its real sense of purpose: to beguile with images and sounds in ways that can only happen in the movies. Directed by Jean-Pierre Melville. Starring Roger Duchesne, Isabelle Corey, Daniel Cauchy, Simone Paris. In black & white. 98 mins. Format to be announced.
Friday, December 25 at 9:00 Only. Saturday December 26 at 5:00 and 9:00
