By George!: SEASON OF THE WITCH
April 23 only
“‘The religion offers, further, a retreat for emotional women, repressed women, masculine women and those suffering from personal disappointment or nervous maladjustment.’ Christ, what other kind of women are there? No wonder this stuff’s getting so damn popular.”
If you liked Anna Biller’s THE LOVE WITCH, you owe it to yourself to see one of that film’s biggest inspirations – Women’s Lib by way of Gerald Gardner. Joan (Jan White) is a bored, unfulfilled housewife losing her sense of self amid her obligations to her indifferent husband and daughter. That changes when she meets Marion (Virginia Greenwald), the new gal in town who happens to read tarot and lead a coven. Joan begins to find self-actualization through witchcraft, but its efficacy is left ambiguous to the viewer in a way that previews what Romero would do a few years later in MARTIN.
104 min. Digital.
