THE FEARMAKERS / STOLEN IDENTITY
I STILL WAKE UP DREAMING! Impossibly RARE B-Noirs from the notorious shadow factories of Hollywood’s Poverty Row curated by Elliot Lavine.
Double Feature. 2 films. One low price!
SUN MAY 23:
An insanely rare cold war noir from the brilliant director of “Out of the Past.” A returning Korean War vet attempts to resume his career as an advertising executive after being brainwashed in a POW camp. But life back home has taken on mysterious and terrifying new meaning and the gradual realization that something insidious is taking place in the nation’s capital begins to take hold. Bristling with paranoid urgency, this forgotten gem is perched to take its rightful place among the finest noir films of the 50s. Starring Dana Andrews, Dick Foran, Marilee Earle, Mel Torme, Veda Ann Borg, and Oliver Blake. Directed by Jacques Tourneur. In B&W. 35mm STUDIO ARCHIVE PRINT! 85 mins. 1958. SUN at 1:30, 4:45 and 8:00.
Post-war Vienna is the setting for this unusual and compelling noir. An out of work refugee becomes entangled in a complicated murder plot involving a jealous concert pianist, his beautiful wife and her lover. This little known gem has a look and feel not altogether unlike that of “The Third Man,” with its shadowy back streets and menacing sense of international intrigue. Another obscurity ripe for rediscovery! Starring Donald Buka (“Between Midnight and Dawn”), Joan Camden, and Francis Lederer (“The Madonna’s Secret”). Directed by Gunther von Fritsch. In B&W. 16mm. 81 mins. 1953. SUN at 3:15, 6:20 and 9:40.
