JEALOUSY / THE LADY CONFESSES
I STILL WAKE UP DREAMING! Impossibly RARE B-Noirs from the notorious shadow factories of Hollywood’s Poverty Row curated by Elliot Lavine.
Double Feature. 2 films. One low price!
MON MAY 17:
A strangely atmospheric Poverty Row B noir with a decidedly downbeat European flavor. The lovely young wife of a hopelessly alcoholic writer takes a job as a taxi driver to help make ends meet. She befriends a man whom she picks up one night and before long the husband turns up dead. Naturally, the wife and her new friend become the prime suspects. But could there more to it than meets the eye? There usually is, you know! Starring John Loder, Jane Randolph ("Cat People," "Railroaded"), Karen Morley, Nils Asther, and Hugo Haas. Directed by Gustav Machaty. In B&W. 16mm. 71 mins. 1945. MON at 8:00 only.
THE LADY CONFESSES
In this thoroughly twisted and tawdry Poverty Row noir psychodrama, Hugh ("Ward Cleaver") Beaumont stars as a man about to wed his fiance only to have his first wife (long ago thought dead) reappear. This would seem to be a big problem but for the fact that very shortly afterwards she winds up strangled to death! It takes a couple of more murders before things begin to make sense. Co-starring Mary Beth Hughes ("The Great Flamarion," "Inner Sanctum"), Edmund MacDonald ("Detour"), and Claudia Drake ("Detour"). Directed by Poverty Row veteran Sam Newfield. In B&W. 16mm. 64 mins. 1945. MON at 6:40 and 9:25.
