SUN MAY 16:

NIGHTMARE

A musician awakens from a horrifying dream wherein he sees himself brutally murder a man. To his shock and dismay he finds pieces of evidence that suggest he may in fact have committed the crime! A moody and atmospheric gem with a decidedly demented denouement! The star, Kevin McCarthy, had just completed work on Don Siegel’s "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and he still seems to be carrying around much of the terrified anxiety he demonstrated in that film. This macabre noir was based on a story by Cornell Woolrich which had been filmed a decade earlier as "Fear in the Night" by the same director. Also starring Edward G. Robinson, Connie Russell, Virginia Christine, and Billy May and his Orchestra as themselves! Directed by Maxwell Shane. In B&W. 35mm STUDIO ARCHIVE PRINT. 89 mins. 1956. SUN at 2:00, 5:00 and 8:00. THE MARK OF THE

THE MARK OF THE WHISTLER

The second entry in this seminal series of B noir classics (and in many ways one of the best) was based on the short story Dormant Account by Cornell Woolrich. Richard Dix stars as an indigent drifter who discovers through a newspaper ad that a man with the same name as his is the legitimate heir to a large sum of money being held at the bank in a dormant account. His dire need for money leads him to impersonate the rightful owner with horrifying results. A classic of doom-laden, fatalistic noir! Presented in a BRAND NEW, RESTORED 35mm PRINT! Co-starring Janis Carter ("Night Editor"), Porter Hall, Paul Guilfoyle, and Henry Calvert. Directed by William Castle. In B&W. 35mm. 61 mins. 1944. SUN at 3:45, 6:45 and 9:45.
