“CRÈME DE LA CRÈME” OF THE FRENCH HAD A NAME FOR IT
December 13, 2014 - December 18, 2014

After a four-day run from November 14-17 that produced sold-out, turn-away business from patrons who could not get enough of the Roxie Theatre’s offering of rare, classic French film noir, festival co-programmers (Elliot Lavine and Don Malcolm) are pleased to announce that a special engagement of audience favorites will be re-screened at the Roxie beginning on Saturday, December 13.

As a “Christmas valentine” for the patrons who stood in line to see these films in November, a special “Noel noir,” the 1962 thriller LE MONTE-CHARGE (aka PARIS PICKUP), featuring festival favorite Robert Hossein (HIGHWAY PICKUP, BLONDE IN A WHITE CAR) will be screened at 7:00pm on Saturday the 13th.

Le Monte-charge, La Verite, Temoins dans la VilleLE MONTE-CHARGE, which is set on Christmas Eve, is the perfect way for French noir fans to get another glimpse into what is a treasure trove of dark, twist-laden films that Malcolm and Lavine plan to bring to the Roxie screen during 2015.

LE MONTE-CHARGE will screen that evening with hands-down festival favorite HIGHWAY PICKUP (aka CHAIR DE POULE), which also features Hossein, the breakout star of the festival.

In addition to HIGHWAY PICKUP, the “crème de la crème” reprise for THE FRENCH HAD A NAME FOR IT will feature Henri-Georges Clouzot’s powerful 1960 noir melodrama LA VÉRITÉ (aka THE TRUTH), starring timeless screen legend Brigitte Bardot.

Also back are the dynamic, nocturnal WITNESS IN THE CITY (aka UN TÉMOIN DANS LA VILLE), with a towering performance from Lino Ventura, and the deliciously twisty KISS FOR A KILLER (aka UNE MANCHE ET LA BELLE), done as only the French can do up a James M. Cain-like tale of lust and murder.

A fifth film, the surreal and incendiary I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVES, which mesmerized the audience on the final night of the festival run, will also receive two additional screenings.

Do not miss your opportunity to see the “crème de la crème” of these French noir rediscoveries before they disappear into the night—just like a mysterious femme fatale
