October – November 2014
Action/Thriller starring Gerard Depardieu (Life of Pi, Green Card, Cyrano de Bergerac) and Elizabeth Hurley (Austin Powers series, Bedazzled, Mickey Blue Eyes). A story of revenge and redemption. When Viktor Lambert returns to Russia after 7 years in French prison, he is determined to uncover the truth and gain revenge for his son’s death just 3 months earlier. He stops at nothing to protect his son’s girlfriend who carries his baby and vows to bring down everyone responsible for his son’s murder. Thrilling pacing, stunning locations and brutal violence in the tradition of action films like Clint Eastwood’s “Gran Torino” and Sam Mendes’ “Road to Perdition.”
Directed by Philippe Martinez, 97min.,2014, Russia

BLOOD FEAST: The Roxie is thrilled to be presenting a rare screening of Herschell Gordon Lewis’ incredible and influential 1963 cult shocker! The local Miami cops are baffled (and sickened) when a string of inanely bloddy murders paralyzes the city with fear! It seems a local caterer is hacking up beautiful girls in order to satisfy the blood lust of an ancient Egyptian goddess! Often cited as the first true “splatter gore” film, BLOOD FEAST is nothing short of of miracle of low budget exploitation cinema. Starring William Kerwin, Mal Arnold, Connie Mason. Written and directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis. In garish Eastman color! New digital transfer. Directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis, 67 mins. 1963. U.S.A.

As bone-dry as the harsh environment where its characters live, Young Ones gives us a futuristic Western so bleak that its pitiless tone becomes downright mesmerizing.
-Tim Grierson, Screen International
YOUNG ONES is set in a near future when water has become the most precious and dwindling resource on the planet, one that dictates everything from political to inter persona. The land has withered into something wretched. The dust has settled on a lonely, barren planet. The hardened survivors of the loss of Earth’s precious resources scrape and struggle. Ernest Holm lives on this harsh frontier with his children. He defends his farm from bandits, works the supply routes, and hopes to rejuvenate the soil. But his daughter’s boyfriend has grander designs. A futuristic western that inventively layers Greek tragedy over an ethereal narrative that’s steeped deeply in the values of the American West. Written & directed by Jake Paltrow. With Michael Shannon, Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult, Kodi Smit-McPhee. Digital. USA. 2014. 100 Minutes.
Elliot Lavine and Don Malcolm proudly present a stellar four-day festival of Gallic noir, twelve dazzling noir films featuring works by famed directors like Melville and Clouzot as well as films from equally talented but somewhat less widely known group of filmmakers such as Julien Duvivier, Jacques Becker, Robert Hossein, and Claude Autant-Lara.
The big Roxie screen will glisten with unimaginable star power provided by Jean Gabin, Simone Signoret, Brigitte Bardot, and 1950s French glamour couple Robert Hossein and Marina Vlady. Most of these exciting films have been absent from US movie screens for decades and we are indeed honored to be hosting this incredible event.
