Rezeta is a beautiful Albanian model who travels to Mexico City to pursue her career in fashion, a job continually taking her around the world. Not speaking Spanish is no a problem for this joyful girl, and she swiftly meets Alex, a punk rocker who will become her best friend, confidant, and more.
None of the actors are professionals – in fact they are all playing caricatures of their real selves: a model, a musician, a writer, and an architect. Lampooning the clichés of their own careers, the actors’ dialogue is semi-improvised and this helps director Fernando Frias create a very organic, realistic film — which is his directorial debut, impressively shot on 16mm. An exploration of what it feels like to be a stranger in one of the world’s largest cities, and a reminder of the risk and excitement of a holiday romance — Rezeta is alive and throbbing.
