Comedian WILL DURST to introduce 2:00pm showing of Moscow on the Hudson on Saturday!!!

ON AUGUST 11 the world lost one of its most brilliantly innovative artists when ROBIN WILLIAMS left us for the other side. His loss is being felt deeply everywhere but probably most deeply right here in the San Francisco Bay Area. As everyone knows by now, Robin called the Bay Area his home ever since the 1970s where his career as a genius stand-up comic exploded madly and rapidly, first on television, then on the big screen — where he immediately became a prolific presence to the delight of his millions of adoring fans.
Robin Williams’ indelible imprint on the San Francisco film community is a proud and distinctive one. In that spirit, on Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23, the Roxie Theater is holding a special memorial tribute featuring two of his best films: MOSCOW ON THE HUDSON (1984) and AWAKENINGS (1990). Both films will be presented in studio 35mm prints!
MOSCOMoscowOnHudsonW ON THE HUDSON (1984) – This delightfully offbeat comedy-drama was among the first wave of Robin’s big-screen performances and it remains one of his best and most memorable. He plays Vladimir Ivanov, a Soviet Russian circus musician who defects while on a visit to the U.S. The story unfolds in totally unpredictable ways. The film was written and directed by the great Paul Mazursky, who passed away on June 30, 2014.
MOSCOW ON THE HUDSON will play on Saturday, August 23 at 2pm and 9:15 pm and on Sunday, August 24 at 4:30 pm.
AwakeningsAWAKENINGS (1990) – In this beautifully moving film, Robin plays a fictionalized version of famed neurologist Oliver Sacks whose memoir it is based on. The film details his work done around the beneficial effects of the drug L-Dopa on decades-long cases of catatonia. The film was directed by Penny Marshall. Robert De Niro, Julie Kavner, John Heard, Penelope Ann Miller, and Max Von Sydow are also in the cast.
AWAKENINGS will play on Saturday, August 23 at 4:30 pm and on Sunday, August 24 at 9:15 pm.
