god-loves-uganda-poster-LR-smallFILMMAKER ROGER ROSS WILLIAMS IN PERSON FOR SELECT SHOWS OPENING WEEKEND! GOD LOVES UGANDA explores the role of the American Evangelical movement in Uganda, where American missionaries have been credited with both creating schools and hospitals and promoting dangerous and deadly bigotry. As an American-influenced bill to make homosexuality punishable by death gains widespread support, tension in Uganda mounts and an atmosphere of murderous hatred takes hold. Meanwhile, trips to Uganda by American missionaries – many of them in their late teens and early twenties – have the light and party-friendly atmosphere of an evangelical Spring Break. The film reveals the conflicting motives of faith and greed among Ugandan ministers, American evangelical leaders and the foot soldiers of a theology that sees Uganda as ground zero in a battle for billions of souls. Dir: Roger Ross Williams. 2013. Digital.
