By George!: THERE’S ALWAYS VANILLA
April 22 only
“Now hold on, Dad! What about the poor bastard who gets hung up on butter pecan?”
“He’s disappointed when he can’t get it. There’s always vanilla, Chris. Always vanilla.”
Did you even know George Romero made a romantic comedy? Admittedly, he considered this his worst film. We think he was being too hard on himself. An American soldier (Raymond Laine) returns home (to Pittsburgh, of course) from Vietnam, determined to break with society’s expectations of him and avoid working in his father’s baby food factory. He meets a woman (Judith Streiner, aka Judith Ridley from NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD) and quickly moves in with her, and they have lots of countercultural fun until she becomes pregnant. Real life can no longer be put off, and some hard decisions have to be made.
